So, I've been doing a lot of research lately and trying to come up with a plot for the first episode of Grimlight that stays true to Who, while also telling a unique Victorian-era story, AND showcasing Madame Vastra and Jenny. I stumbled upon an old urban legend - which I actually already knew about but had forgotten - and realised it would be perfect for the Gaslight setting of the series.
My plan for the episode is to re-introduce Madame Vastra and Jenny, their relationship to one another, as well as their relationships to the outside world. One of the hardest things about writing in a setting like Victorian-era London is, you can very easily get bogged down with details. Things as simple as how someone would make a pot of tea could have you running to Wikipedia. While I'm definitely going to make sure the bigger stories stay true to the times, I'm not going to let all the minor things take over the story.
Regardless, I'm hoping "The Terror of Spring-heeled Jack" will entertain, as well as introduce readers to a new and mysterious world, something different to anything else we've seen in Who/Torchwood so far. Now that I have a good story in my head, it won't be long before that pilot script is done.
